Promoting Peace in Edo polity: Edo NUJ commends P4P
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo state Council- Comrade Festus Alenkhe, JP, has lauded the Edo state chapter of Partners for Peace (P4P) in the Niger Delta over their peacebuilding activities in the state. He said the network's campaign for peaceful and nonviolent election in the forthcoming September 21st Edo governorship poll is a welcome development.
Festus Alenkhe made this known when members of the Project Implementation Committee of the P4P paid him an advocacy visit recently in his office in Benin.
The Edo NUJ boss who extolled the leadership qualities of Edo P4P Coordinator- Engr Eugene Okoeguale, said "everybody needs peace". He said peace attracts development be it political, economic, social or religious.
"Where there's no peace, there's no development. Peace and love is what everybody needs. The NUJ is ever ready to support your peace building activities in the area of publicity and Enlightenment.
"I want to use this medium to appeal to all candidates in the forthcoming Edo governorship election to embrace peace and resort to the court in registering their grievances. There's life after election", the award winning Chairman said.
Earlier, the Secretary of Edo P4P and President of Journalists for Peace Network (JPN)- Dr. Isaac Omo-Ehiabhi Eranga said the Edo P4P was at the NUJ to inform the journalists in the state of it's peacebuilding activities in order to ensure peaceful and violence-free Edo governorship election and to sue their partnership in the area of publicity.
The Edo P4P Treasurer Pst Maria Okoh said the network cannot do anything without involving the NUJ. She called on the NUJ to help promote the ideal of the network (which is peacebuilding). "We are currently carrying out voters education in the three Senatorial Districts of Edo State in order to sensitize the voters on the rules of elections", she said.
