Promoting sustainable forest conservation: SCERA commission Tree Nursery
... Present farm implements to beneficiaries

Udo: As part of sustained effort in promoting forest conservation in rural communities, the Society for Sustainability and Conservation Education for Rural Areas (SCERA) has commissioned community Tree Nursery and Borehole at Udo community of Edo State. The commissioning also gave SCERA the opportunity to present farm implements to beneficiaries.
Speaking shortly after the commissioning, the Technical Program Coordinator- Mr. Joseph Molukwu said the essence of the project was to provide alternative livelihood support for communities, especially those that are sustainable and forest friendly. He said that informed SCERA in targeting areas like bee keeping, agro forestry, nursery management, etc.
"SCERA is very particular about those living close to the natural resources; the protected areas. Those people are very important to any conservation initiative of the National Park. So, we have to take them seriously, we have to incorporate them into our programs", said Mr. Molokwu
The Conservator General of the National Park Service, Dr Ibrahim Musa Goni, represented by Assistant Conservator General, ACG Cornelius Oladipo, thanked SCERA for successful completion of the project which lasted for 20 months.
"We are happy about the project. The community is empowered; there's no more complain that there's no job.
"We want to urge all the stakeholders to make good use of the implements presented to them by SCERA", the CG said.
Beneficiaries of the farm implements expressed joy and thanked SCERA for empowering them.
In his remark, Chief Erhabor John from Udo community said the project will help develop the community. "These items given to us is to bring about growth in the community. It will also help tackle aforestation", he said.
On his part, Chief Engr. Festus Eboigbe of Ugolo dukedom said it was a dream come through. "When SCERA started this project, we thought it was a joke, even when the training had already started and promise made about the farm implements. But today, it has come to fruition. I feel so grateful", he said.
Osemwingie Sunday from Ekoka community said it was their duty to make good use of the implements in developing their community.
SCERA is a conservation and environmental NGO which started in 2008, but registered in 2012. They have offices in Okomu National Park- Udo, Jos, and Abuja.
