Pioneer Correspondent Emerges Edo Nawoj Chairperson
Mrs. Habiba Barbara Sam of the Akwa-Ibom State owned Newspaper- The Pioneer, has been elected Chairperson of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Edo State chapter. She's replacing the immediate past Chairperson- Adesuwa Ehimuan of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Bronze FM.
The immediate past Secretary, Barbara Sam has been a selfless committed member of NAWOJ and actively participated in all her activities. This to many of her peers, won her the leaders endorsement for the position of Edo NAWOJ Chairperson.
Those elected include: Habiba Sam- Chairman; Oyemwense Ode- Vice- Chairman; Joy Ebuanekpe- Secretary; Joyce Alohan- Assistant secretary; Iyabo Osagiede - Treasurer; Elizabeth Owotuoma- Financial secretary; and Anita Erhenhi- Auditor.
Delivering a speech, the newly elected Edo NAWOJ boss said she was grateful for the trust reposed in her to lead the Edo State Chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for the next three years. She said it will spur her to put in her best.
"My heartfelt appreciation goes to our parent body, Edo NUJ, led by Dr. Festus Alenkhe, for their steadfast support for Edo NAWOJ. We're eager to continue working together and looking forward to their ongoing support as we strive to achieve our objectives.
"To my fellow leaders who encouraged me to take on this role, I thank you for your faith in me. I pledge to make you proud and to uphold the values of our noble profession.
"Today, we celebrate a major turning point for NAWOJ, Edo State Chapter, as we begin a new era united and in harmony. This remarkable show of unity underscores our dedication to advancing our Association's interests. I pledge to strengthen this bond, promoting harmony and collaboration amongst us all.
"I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of this exercise. Your support and cooperation are invaluable to us. As a leader, I have always believed that sacrifice is essential to achieving greatness. As a young NAWOJAN then, I have demonstrated this commitment, and I am committed to continuing in this vein.
"As we embark on this new chapter, my focus will be on bridging gaps and fostering unity among NAWOJ members across all chapels, driving collective progress and growth for our Association. Since NAWOJ's establishment on September 12, 1989, it's been instrumental in championing women journalists' interests and promoting gender equality nationwide.
"Today, we continue to work towards ensuring that Nigerian women have a strong voice in politics, governance, education, health, and economic wellbeing. I urge all NAWOJ members to join hands with us, bringing their skills and expertise to the table, to achieve greatness together.
"We welcome constructive criticism and look forward to your support and partnership.Together, we can achieve far more than our expected goals", said Habiba Barbara Sam.
