Edwin Omoregie Foundation Donates Educational Materials to Schools in Ovia North East LGA
In its continued effort towards promoting quality education and learning support among children in public schools, the Edwin Omoregie Foundation, under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Edwin Omoregie, visited several primary schools across Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State to distribute educational materials to pupils and teachers.
The outreach, which took place on Monday 13th October, saw pupils in various schools receive essential learning materials such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, biros, blackboard markers, and other instructional tools. In addition, the foundation presented special packages to pupils who came out first in their classes during the last academic term- a gesture aimed at recognizing academic excellence and motivating other students to work harder.
This initiative by the Edwin Omoregie Foundation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4- Quality Education, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. The foundation’s gesture also supports Goal 10 – Reduced Inequalities, by bridging the educational gap among pupils in underserved communities.
Adolor Primary School, Ekiadolor
One of the major stops for the team was Adolor Primary School, Ekiadolor, where they were warmly received by the Headmistress, Mrs. Iyiewuare Caroline, alongside Mr. Jethro Omoragbon, Senior Management Officer of the Ovia North East Education Authority, Okada. The visit brought excitement and joy to the pupils and staff, who expressed appreciation for being remembered by the foundation.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Iyiewuare commended Dr. Omoregie and his team for their benevolence and commitment to supporting public education.
“This donation is a timely intervention that will greatly assist our pupils. Many of them come to school without adequate materials due to financial challenges faced by their parents. These notebooks and writing materials will not only put smiles on their faces but also enhance their willingness to learn", said she.
She further noted that the foundation’s gesture aligns with the government’s effort to improve basic education and called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate Dr. Omoregie’s example.
While addressing the pupils, Dr. Edwin Omoregie expressed his joy at being able to contribute to the academic development of children within his community. He stated that education has always been close to his heart and forms a key part of the foundation’s annual programs.
“Education is the best legacy we can give to our children. We believe that when a child is educated, the entire society benefits. This is why our foundation is committed to supporting schools every year by donating essential learning materials. We want every child to have the opportunity to learn in a conducive environment and pursue their dreams confidently",Dr Omoregie said.
He also encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously and make good use of the materials provided.
Also present at the event was the Students’ Union President of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Ekiadolor Comrade Daniel Omoregie, who joined the foundation’s entourage. While addressing the pupils, Comrade Omoregie urged them to be disciplined, study hard, and make their parents and teachers proud.
“Hard work and dedication are the keys to success. Do not be distracted by your environment. Focus on your books and make the best out of your time in school. Education will open doors for you in the future.”
He later presented special packages on behalf of the foundation to pupils who emerged top of their respective classes, commending their outstanding performance and encouraging others to follow their example.
Ekhibi Primary School, Ovbiogie, Benin City
The team also visited Ekhibi Primary School, Ovbiogie, in Benin City, where they were received by the Headmistress, Mrs. Iyoha Esohe. She expressed her profound gratitude to the foundation for recognizing her school among the beneficiaries of this year’s educational outreach.
“We are indeed grateful for this thoughtful gesture. Many of our pupils come from low-income homes, and the support from the Edwin Omoregie Foundation will go a long way in encouraging attendance and boosting their morale.”
During this visit, a special category of reward was also introduced for pupils who resumed school on the official resumption date. The CEO explained that the initiative was designed to promote punctuality and a culture of early resumption among students.
“We want to encourage children to develop the habit of coming to school early and taking their education seriously from day one,” Dr. Omoregie explained. According to the CEO, “Rewarding punctual pupils is one way to motivate others to do the same.”
Teachers Also Benefit
Teachers across the schools visited were not left out, as they received special instructional and teaching materials to enhance effective classroom management and the learning process. The foundation noted that teachers play a critical role in shaping the minds of the next generation and deserve every support they can get.
“Empowering teachers means empowering the future. When teachers are equipped with the right tools, the entire educational system benefits", Dr. Omoregie remarked.
