Edo State Government, CSOs pledge commitment for the domestication of UNSCR 1325 of Women, Peace and Security

As part of commitment towards actualizing the domestication of the United Nations Security Council (UNSCR) 1325 of Women Peace and Security (WPS) in Edo State, Edo State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Civil Society Organisations, in collaboration with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP)- Nigeria, recently met in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The meeting which was held in the conference hall of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development gave room for the MDAs and CSOs to discuss the draft State Action Plan of the UNSCR 1325 and identify possible stakeholders that will be incorporated into the steering committee to actualize the action document.
According to the facilitator of the meeting- Amb. Barr. Agatha Osieke, the meeting was to identify gaps in the State Action Plan (SAP) and to profer pragmatic ways of filling the gaps.
In a welcome address, the Honorable Commissioner of the Military of Women Affairs and Social Development- Chief Barr. Mrs. Bisi Idaomi, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien, expressed gratitude to WANEP- Nigeria for making the domestication of UNSCR 1325 in Edo State a priority. She said a project such as this, with the intention to protecting women and girls in the state and ensuring their peace and security is paramount like never before, is laudable.
On his part, a co-facilitator- Dr Bright Oniovokukor presented Edo State Action Plan Matrix in which number one priority was curbing the protracted insecurity across the three geopolitical zones of Edo State, and critical sectors outcomes of the sociopolitical sphere, such as: increasing the level of human security, especially as it concern women and girls.
Goodwill messages were given by participants who pledged their committments to the actualization of the domestication of the UNSCR 1325 in the State.
