Fear grips worshippers as a blindfolded corpse appears in Benin church.

A blindfolded corpse of a smartly dressed man made to sit on a bare floor as its back rested against a wall has been found inside a church in Benin City.

The frightening discovery was made by a worshipper who had gone for morning prayers in the church at 1, Aigbe Street, Off Igbama Street, Off Odeh Street, Upper Siluko Road, Ogida, Benin City.

The identity of the deceased remain unknown to congregation and residents of the area at press time.

He was shot dead in the church about 8pm last Tuesday. Pastor said the corpse wasn't in the church when he left about 6:30pm that fateful evening.

Police say he was captured elsewhere, dragged inside the desolate building and brutally murdered by warring cultists.
