In Lagos: 162 rape cases recorded in 2016

This was confirmed by the state police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, while speaking on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the 10th Town Hall Meeting on Security.

The meeting was organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund who came up with the theme, "Optimising Security Funding in a Recession".

Owoseni's disclosure detailed all the command's activity from December 2015 to the current year.

Speaking at the event, the police commissioner said, ”Conspiracy of silence is a major challenge and religious leaders carry out most of these cases of domestic violence.

”We need our people to speak out and join in the fight against domestic and sexual violence to curb the menace.”

He ended his address by restating the police commitment in ensuring the safety of law abiding citizens.
