EID AL-ADHA: Partners for Peace Network in the Niger Delta, Edo State sue for peaceful coexistence as pathway to development

As Muslims celebrate the eid al-adha, the Partners for Peace Network in the Niger Delta (P4P), Edo State chapter has reiterated the importance of peace in the actualization of individual and community's aspiration. This was contained in a press release signed by the State Coordinator- Engr. Eugene Okoeguale, and the State Secretary- Dr. Isaac Eranga FSFSN APRCN. Stakeholders gather in Benin for passage of Edo Women Economic Justice Bill

Benin City – Stakeholders from across Edo State gathered in Benin City for a one-day sensitization workshop to press for the passage of the Edo State Women Economic Justice Bill 2022.  The event was convened by the Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative (ECOWA) and the Edo State Women Economic Justice Network, in partnership with the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and with support from the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET). Dr. Louisa Eikhomun-Agbonkhese, Founder of ECOWA  The bill, which was submitted to the Edo State House of Assembly in 2022, seeks to establish a legal framework for women’s economic rights, protection, and equal access to economic opportunities.  Although introduced nearly three years ago, the bill is yet to be passed into law, prompting fresh advocacy efforts by civil society and government actors. SAD END: 29 feared dead as Kano athletes involved in auto crash

No fewer than 20 athletes from Kano Contingent have been confirmed dead following a ghastly motor accident at Dakatsalle Bridge in the Kura Local Government area of Kano State. The athletes were said to be returning from from the just concluded National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, who confirmed the incident, said many other athletes sustained various degree of injuries following the fatal accident on Saturday. He explained that the bus conveying 30 athletes fell from the bridge, leading to the death of the 20 athletes. “As I am talking to you now, we have counted 19 dead bodies,” Fagge said. Similarly, Ado Salisu, a former Vice President of SWAN, said victims were still being conveyed to Kura General Hospital. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, also confirmed the accident. Improving roads connectivity in Edo: Gov Okpebholo commences remedial works on Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo Federal Road

Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the total rehabilitation of over forty five failed portions on the Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo Federal road, as part of moves to revive economic activities in towns and villages within Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the State . The latest approval is coming, just as the State Government has completed the construction of the Ikiran-Oke Ikakhumoh road, also in Akoko Edo Local Government. The Auchi-Igara-Ibillo road is one of the many deplorable Federal roads in Edo State being rehabilitated by Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration. The road connecting many communities in Akoko Edo Local Government to the rest of the State also serves as a link between Kogi and Ondo States.
