Edo is one of the South/South States yet to develop the UNSCR 1325 State Action Plan, says WANEP

By Isaac Eranga It has been revealed that Edo State known as the heartbeat of Nigeria is among the few states in the South/South geopolitical zone of the country that is yet to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 State Action Plan (SAP), with Delta and Rivers States taking the lead, despite the show of political-will by the state government in promoting women inclusiveness in the state. This revelation was made by the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP)- Nigeria, through a press statement signed by the National Network Coordinator (NNC)- Dr Bridget Osakwe. Women Radio Centre trains female journalists on investigative reporting from the Woman angle

By Isaac Eranga The Women Radio Centre has selected 21 journalists and journos for the 2023 female investigative reporting training from the woman angle. The second edition of the residential training will address under-representation and under-reported issues surrounding women. This was contained in a Press Release made available to Social Reporters News Service by the Communications Officer of Women Radio 91.7 - Elizabeth Aboh. According to the Release, “It is imperative that we commit to unearth and uncover those stories that affect women and girls, with the overall goal of amplifying the voices of women,” said Toun Okewale Sonaiya of the Women Radio Centre. 35% Affirmative Action: Toun Okewale Sonaiya urges state governors to nominate women for ministerial appointments

The Chief Executive Officer of Women Radio 91.7- Toun Okewale Sonaiya has called on Nigerian governors to nominate at least a woman amongst the three names being sent to the President elect of Nigeria, H.E Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to be considered for ministerial appointments. She said responsibility for ministerial appointments lies not only with President-elect H.E  but also with the governors of respective All Progressives Congress (APC) states, who are putting forward names for nomination.  "I appeal to all APC state governors to nominate at least one woman among the three names they send to the incoming administration for ministerial appointments. One female nomination per three nominees by governors, APC chairmen and leadership in non-APC states would translate to approximately 35% in accordance with the affirmative action and bridge the vacuum created in 2023 elective positions.
