EFCC takes Vice Chancellor of FUTA to court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC , on Tuesday in Akure arraigned the Vice Chancellor Of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, (FUTA), Gregory Daramola, over allegations of fraud to the tune of N24 million. The Vice Chancellor was arraigned along with the school’s bursar, Ayodeji Oresegun, for offences of misappropriation of public funds, misuse of office, and obtaining money under force pretense among others. While Mr. Daramola is facing a nine-count charge, his co-accused is facing a two-count charge of mishandling unpaid funds and fixing funds without due process. According to the charges, the vice chancellor and the bursar conspired “on or about 21 January, 2015 with intent to defraud to wit illegally place on fixed deposit the money of the Federal University of Technology Akure in a WEMA bank account No 1300002035.” They were also accused of abuse of office. “That you Prof. Adebiyi G. Breast and cervical cancers: NGO calls on FG to support fight against cancer

By Isaac Eranga A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Women Friendly Initiative (WFI) has urged government at all levels to assist relevant bodies with the provision of fund to support the fight against cancer in the country. The Director of the NGO, Mrs Frances Teshoma made the appeal during an awareness campaign to commemorate 2017 World Cancer Day in Kuje Area Council recently. She said that the call became imperative to enable Nigerians live a healthy life. School feeding programme: FG releases N844 million, employs 11,775 cooks

By Isaac Eranga The Federal Government has released N844 million and employed 11,775 cooks to start its one-meal per day programme to more than one million primary school pupils across seven states in the country. This was announced in a statement by Mr Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Office of the Vice President. Akande said this while giving a media update on the Social Investment Programme of the Buhari’s administration. He said that the money had been released for the commencement of National Homegrown School Feeding Programme in Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun and Zamfara states. The SSA noted that not all the states had implemented the programme, adding that it had commenced in Anambra, Enugu, Osun, Ogun, and Oyo states. Cultists burst Edo Police Station, Free 2, kill 1

Armed men, suspected to be cultists, have attacked a police station in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State and freedtheir colleagues in detention. It was learnt that the attackers had gained access to the police station located in Ibillo after disguising as relatives of their colleagues on February 2, 2017. They were said to have shot sporadically, killing a woman in the process. The attackers were said to have successfully freed their colleagues and run away. Confirming the report, State Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, said the freed suspects had been arrested for alleged rape. He said, “Two rapists were arrested at Ibillo and unknown to the police, the suspects were cultists. Their members went to the police station. “But the police did not know they were there to rescue their members.
