Ayomide O. Tayo Chimamanda Adichie pens a lengthy essay to her friend on how to raise a daughter as a feminist. On Wednesday, October 13, 2016 award winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie » posted a nine thousand word article on how to raise your daughter as a feminist. The article which was posted on her Facebook page was an open letter to her friend Ijeawele who recently gave birth to a girl and reached out to her author friend asking for tips on how to raise her daughter as a feminist. Female Inheritance: Auchi monarch pledges to lead Jihad if bill is passed

Not everyone is in support of the bill that will allow for female inheritance in Nigeria. The Vice-President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) and Otaru of Auchi Kingdom, Alhaji Aliru Momoh Ikelebe III has stated that he will lead a spiritual Jihad against the Senate if the bill is passed. "It is the Quran that specifies how you share inheritance and we have had peace in this community regarding how you share the inheritance. If anything, I believe it is a joke but if it is not, I will lead a spiritual Jihad against the Senate if they should order the alteration of the Quran. Dismissed Police Officers: Wike Vows To Support Six Dismissed Officers

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to stand by the six dismissed policemen attached to him during the December 10 rerun elections. The Governor who believes that “sometimes success comes in the form of a bad experience”, also said that any attempt to intimidate him would fail. He made the comments at a defection ceremony of a former Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area and a former Chieftain of the APC to the PDP, Cassidy Ikegbidi, in Ahoada East Local Government Area in the state. According to him, the dismissal of the men is a blessing in disguise. The government had earlier described the situation as a “sad development for professionalism in the Nigerian Police force”. Edo Police Enforce Ban On Illegal Tickets

The Edo State Commissioner of police Haliru Gwandu, has warned youths disengaged from work as a result of the ban on illegal collection of taxes and levies in Edo State, not to go into crime as the police will not hesitate to bring them to book. The CP who gave the warning in an interview with Channels Television after a meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Police on the issue, said the command has come up with modalities for the enforcement of the ban. He assured residents of the state of securing lives and properties. Two weeks ago, the state government banned the illegal collection of taxes in Edo state. The unions have complied with the ban, especially Commercial drivers and some revenue collecting agencies in Benin City, the Edo State’s capital. Justice Okon Abang, Others Redeployed

Justice Okon Abang in Abuja division have been redeployed in a major shake up ordered by the Chief Judge of the court. Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has also been redeployed. A circular addressed to all judges of the court, announced that Justice Liman had been moved to Enugu division, while Justice Abang is transferred to Asaba division. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, who endorsed the redeployment of Justices Abang, Liman, and nine others, was silent on the reason for the movement. He mainly attributed it to “the recent developments in the court.” The circular said the postings would not affect the criminal cases the redeployed judges are currently handling. Nigerian Journalist Arrested By Policemen In Uyo Over Facebook Post

The Nigerian police has been accused of being dictatorial after it forcefully arrested and whisked away a journalist over his post on Facebook. Some plain clothes policemen on Friday arrested and whisked to Abuja a journalist based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Jerry Edoho. The journalist was identified as the Deputy Editor of Ibom Nation Newspaper, a local publication. He was arrested by the security operatives and forcibly taken to the Federal Capital over a post he allegedly put up on his Facebook page involving Dana Air. Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has appointed a national overseer the church in Nigeria. However, he remains the general overseer of the church. Announcing his vacation of the Nigeria role on Saturday, at the annual ministers thanksgiving at Shimawa, Ogun State, Adeboye, who turns 75 on March 2, named Joshua Obayemi, former special assistant to the general overseer on finance, as the national overseer. He also named J.F. Odesola, a pastor who was the special assistant on administration and personnel, as the new church secretary; and J.A. Adeyokunnu, another pastor, as the new treasurer. The revered preacher then requested the congregants to pray for the new leadership, at the end of which he also did the same.
