Thierry Henry becomes Belgium assistant coach

Former France star Thierry Henry has been named as the new assistant coach of Belgium, the national coach announced Roberto Martinez announced on Friday. “Thierry is an important figure. He will bring something different. He agreed right away to join us,” said Martinez, who was appointed at the start of the month to succeed the sacked Marc Wilmots.

Man kills wife, three others in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the alleged murder of a 43-year-old woman, Yemisi Adio, by her husband, Taiwo Adio. This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the command, El-mustapha Sani, and made available to the  News Agency of Nigeria  in Sokoto on Sunday. Sani said that the incident took place on Saturday at the old Airport Area. He said that the suspect had used the same pestle with which he killed his wife, to kill three other persons. The victims, according to him, were: Rachael Adewole, 42, Dennis Adewole,10, and Esther Badelu, 14, all of the same address. The police spokesman further said that the pestle had been recovered as an exhibit, while the case was being investigated by the command’s Criminal Investigation Department.  ”All the corpses had been deposited at the morgue of the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, for post mortem,” he added.

Boko Haram kills 10, abducts 13 near Chibok

Boko Haram Islamists have killed 10 people and abducted 13 others in a raid on a village near the northeast Nigerian town of Chibok where the militants kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls in 2014, locals told AFP Sunday.  Boko Haram Armed jihadists on motorcycles invaded Kubrrivu at dawn on Saturday, firing on the residents as they were sleeping and looting and burning homes before fleeing into the bush with 13 women and children seized from the village.  “The Boko Haram attackers rode on four motorcycles, three on each, and opened fire on the village as residents slept,” said Luka Damina, a resident of nearby Kautikeri village where Kubrrivu residents fled to safety following the attack.  “They burnt down the whole village after looting food supplies and livestock and taking away women and children,” Damina said.  Ayuba Alamson, a community elder in Chibok, some 20 kilometres (12 miles) away, confirmed the attack, saying 13 people were abducted in the raid. “After...

80-year-old woman arrested with dead baby in Lagos

From our Correspondent An 80-year-old woman, Kuburat Ayinde, has been arrested by the police after she was caught with a dead baby boy in the Oshodi under bridge area of Lagos State. The woman had allegedly abducted the baby alive from Abeokuta, Ogun State, and strapped him to her back. The infant, however, died before she arrived in Lagos. The octogenarian was arrested on Sunday. PERISCOPE CRIME and SOCIETY  gathered that Ayinde wanted to board a bus to Ikorodu from Oshodi at about 2pm on Sunday when a commuter noticed that she was fidgety. The man and other passers-by were said to have asked her about the whereabouts of the baby’s mother, but she could not give a convincing reply. It was learnt that the baby was discovered to be dead after the octogenarian was forced to remove him from her back. Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday had insisted that the PDP must stop its planned national convention. The judge gave a stern warning to the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahood Yakubu, not to monitor the convention. The judge also ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to enforce the court’s order. Justice Abang’s order is contrary to another order by Justice Ibrahim Watila of the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court, directing the IGP to monitor the convention. Six ex-militants bag first class at BIU

Fidelis Soriwei, Abuja Six students of the Presidential Amnesty Programme have graduated from the Benson Idahosa University, Benin, Edo State with First Class honours.  The Media and Communications Consultant of the Amnesty Office, Mr. Owei Lakemfa, said in a statement on Tuesday that that the result issued by the institution on Monday revealed that one of the six delegates made a first class degree in Mathematics, two in Business Administration and three in Political Science and Public Administration. Lakemfa said 34 out of the 79 students who graduated from the institution made Second Class Upper Honours Division from various disciplines. According to him, eight students graduated in Political Science, four in Economics, four in Banking and Finance, and another four in Mass Communications. Former Diamond Bank Manager Remanded To Prison Over N24 Million Fraud

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos has ordered that a former Manager of Diamond Bank Plc., Chinedu Oguike, be remanded to prison custody over a N24 million fraud charge. Justice Abdul Aziz Anka gave the ruling on Tuesday when the defendant was arraigned by the Police Special Fraud Unit for a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretense, and advance fee fraud. CSP Effiong Asuquo, the force prosecutor, accused Mr. Oguike of defrauding one Ufomba Nnabugwu of N24 million on the pretense that he would secure a property for Mr. Nnabugwu in the Ijegun area of Lagos State. The defendant was also accused of awarding a loan to himself with fictitious collateral under the name Edwin Obele Ezeakachukwu. The offenses, which were allegedly committed in 2014, contravene the provisions of Section 8(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act of 2006 and punishable under Section 1(1)(a)(3) of the same Act as well as Section 1(2)...
