2015: I will not let Nigerians down, Jonathan tells Nigerians

President Goodluck Jonathan has promised not to let Nigerians down as he begins the campaign for the 2015 general elections. The President said this in his acceptance speech after he was ratified as the presidential candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party at the party’s special convention which ended in the early hours of Thursday in Abuja. He told the delegates that having placed great faith in him and chosen him as the party’s presidential candidate, he would not fail them. Flying Eagles on litemus test

Nigeria U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, will begin playing test matches at their Kaduna training base from Thursday. The team have been training in Kaduna for about a week. Their first match will be against Jamba Academy of Kaduna and it will kick off by 7am at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. They will play a second game on Saturday morning against Standard FC of Zaria at the same venue. Another series of training matches are fixed for next week. Each half of the test match will last an hour and be played by different set of players as the Flying Eagles continue to scout for fresh talent to boost the squad of next year’s African Youth Championship in Senegal. Training has been rigorous with hundreds of hopefuls trooping into the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on a daily basis. Adamawa communities shut down, as Army chase Boko Haram

The troops of the Nigerian Army are carrying out a major operation to flush out remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in Michika and some neighboring communities in Adamawa State. Investigation revealed that the soldiers have restricted movement from Hong to Michika to prevent the insurgents from fleeing the area. The source said that some of the insurgents believed to be from the Michika area launched an attack on a military checkpoint in the town but were repelled by the  vigilant soldiers. It was gathered that the soldiers, riot policemen and vigilance groups are carrying out house-to-house search to flush out the insurgents hiding in some of the communities. Oby Ezekwesili denies Obasanjo, saying "I was not his woman"

A former Vice-President of the World Bank, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, on Wednesday denied having any amorous relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Ezekwesili’s denial followed the widespread circulation of a photograph showing her in a very warm embrace with Obasanjo. In the trending photo, the former President is seen holding Ezekwesili from behind and giving her a peck on the cheek. The controversial picture was taken on Tuesday during the public presentation of Obasanjo’s three-part autobiography entitled, ‘My Watch’. Many online commentators expressed displeasure with Ezekwesili and Obasanjo for behaving in such a manner in public. They accused the former minister of education, who once served in Obasanjo’s cabinet, of being indecorous as a married woman and passing a wrong message to young girls who look up to her as a role model.
